Ocular Plastic Surgery

Ocular plastic surgery, or oculoplastic surgery, is a field of ophthalmology focused on the health of the structures around your eyes. This includes your eyelids, tear ducts, eyebrows, orbit (your eye socket), and face.

If you require surgery involving the delicate area around your eyes or face, turn to the ophthalmologists at South Florida Vision Associates who have additional training and experience in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyes and face. Our specialists are experts in ophthalmologic microsurgery as well as the principles of cosmetic surgery.

Oculoplastic surgery is sometimes also called oculofacial or ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Conditions We Treat

There are a wide variety of medical conditions that can affect the structures around your eyes. The conditions we can treat with oculoplastic surgery include:

  • Bell’s palsy
  • Drooping eyelid (ptosis)
  • Entropion
  • Eye issues as a result of Graves’ disease (which causes hyperthyroidism), including eyelid malposition/retraction, double vision, and ocular proptosis (bulging eyes)
  • Injuries to the eye, eyelid, or orbit
  • Tear duct obstructions
  • Tumors on the eyelids or face

Types of Oculoplastic Surgery We Offer

If you require oculoplastic surgery, you may need to have the soft, fine tissue around your eye and face repaired, removed, or reconstructed. The South Florida Vision Associates ophthalmologists have the training, skill, knowledge, and experience to do this effectively and efficiently – so you experience as little downtime afterward as possible, as well as a quick and easy post-op recovery.

The oculoplastic surgeries and procedures we offer at South Florida Vision Associates include:

  • Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) for upper or lower eyelids, or both
  • Entropion repair
  • Eyebrow lift
  • Eyelid repositioning
  • Facial reconstruction after skin cancer surgery
  • Orbital fracture and repair
  • Tear duct surgery
  • Tumor and skin cancer removal

Most of these oculoplastic surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis, so you are able to return home on the same day as the procedure.
